Introduction

Since 2004, LLCS has been actively involved in the “Rain-saving water cellar” project. Every year, LLCS organizes the Water-on-your-back fundraising walkathon on Mother's Day, inviting participants to carry a 5-litre bottle on their backs to experience the hardship of fetching water while generating public awareness towards the drought problem in China’s northwest region.

The Fifth Mother’s Day Water-on-your-back Walkathon

In the sunny morning of Mother’s Day 2009, near 2,000 people gathered on the Peak to take part in the Fifth Water-on-your-back Walkathon, raising funds for the poor drought-stricken mothers in Mainland China. Participants have to carry 4.5L water bottles on their backs to experience the hardship of water fetching. This year we celebrated new records with 2,000 participants, raising a total of HK$1 million.</

  The 4th Water-on-your-back Walkathon
The 4th Water-on-your-back Walkathon was held on Mothers’ Day, 11 May 2008, attracting several hundreds of participants to raise funds for drought-stricken peasants in China amid a rainy day. Carrying a 5-litre bottle on their backs, each participant has to walk from Cultural Centre in Tsimshatsui to Hung Hom Ferry Pier, to experience the hardship of those who need to travel far to fetch water each day. Such event had made Mothers’ Day more meaningful.
  The third Water-on-your-back Walkathon
An opening ceremony was held at 9:30a.m., 13 May 2007, at the piazza outside of the Ma An Shan public library. Mr. Amigo Choi, the MC introduced our guests of honor Kenny B and Anita Yuen, as well as special guests Lau Wai Hing, Legislative Council, to kick off the ceremony. Each of our guests of honor also donated HK$100,00 in the name of their children to help the poor peasants build water cellars in drought-stricken regions.
  The second Water-on-your-back Walkathon
The second Water-on-your-back Walkathon was held on 14 May 2006. Starting at the piazza outside of the Ma An Shan Public Library and ending at The University Train Station, the two hour journey attracted near 500 participants and raised a total of HK$480,000, sufficient to help 400 drought-stricken families in Mainland China to build rain-saving water cellars.
  The first Water-on-your-back Walkathon
The first Water-on-your-back Walkathon was held on Mother’s Day 8 May 2005. A sum of HK$350,000 was raised, enabling us to build rain-saving water cellars for approximately 300 families living in China’s dry northwest.
